The Youth Police Academy is designed to provide middle school students with a better understanding of law enforcement practices. The academy introduces participants to the field of law enforcement and provides an opportunity for youth and police officers to connect. Students attend a mock police academy involving lectures, role-playing, topical demonstrations and team-building exercises.

The academy includes structured activities designed to highlight four cardinal work principals: teamwork, leadership, communication and problem solving/conflict resolution. There is no cost to attend the academy. Class size is limited to 20 participants. Lunch and a t-shirt will be provided.

Topics include: How to Become a Police Officer, SWAT, CSI, K9, Juvenile Justice Center, 911 Call Center, Stop the Bleed training and other interactive learning activities oriented around law enforcement.

Registration opens May 1 at LaVistaPolice.org.
