Services Offered to Children

The La Vista Public Library offers many services to children of the community.  Below is a listing of current services offered to children.  For information about these services, email the Library or call at 402-537-3900

Craft Days
Craft Days are held various times throughout the year.  The sessions are from 3:30 - 4:00 for children in fifth grade and younger.  Craft Day will be held on September 15th, October 6th, and October 28th.  Registration is not required.

Reading Room
The library staff will be reading to children (infants to 2nd grade) in a “drop in” session that will last 20-30 minutes.  Children can be accompanied by a parent or attend the session “on their own” while their parents are in the library.  The sessions are every Tuesday at 7:00 pm and every Saturday morning at 10:00 am.

Lapsit Storytime
Lapsit is for library cardholder parents or caregivers and infants from 6 to 18 months of age. It consists of simple stories, songs, finger plays, and other fun activities. It is designed to introduce these young children to the joys of reading. This activity is offered at the same time as Preschool Storytime for the convenience of those who have children in both. Sessions begin promptly at 10:10 am and last approximately 15 to 20 minutes.

The fall session of Lapsit will be offered from September 30th to December 16th. Your child must be registered for this program.  Registration Form

Preschool Storytime
Storytime is offered to library members at no extra charge. These weekly sessions are for the 3 to 5 year old child (not in kindergarten). The aim of story time is to introduce children to the library and to the magic of books and reading as well as develop social skills needed for school. The sessions will be from 10:00-10:45 a.m.  The storytime format consists of stories, crafts, music and play time.   Registration is required and space is limited. Contact the library for more details.

The fall session of Preschool storytime will be offered from September 20th to December 17th. Your child must be registered for this program.   Registration Form

Toddler Storytime
Storytime is offered to library members at no extra charge.  Join Miss Marjie one morning a week for stories, songs, finger plays, and other fun activities.  This is a fun time for children between 18 months and three years of age to spend with Mom, Dad, or a caregiver.  Toddler Storytime is offered at the same time as Preschool Story time for the convenience of those who have children in both.  Sessions begin at 10:10 am and last approximately 25 minutes.  Registration is required and is limited to 10 toddlers per session so each can get the attention they need.

The fall session of Toddler storytime will be offered from September 27th to December 16th.  Your child must be registered for this program.   Registration Form
